Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's parents emigrated to Louisiana in the early 90s. Decker won a regional talent contest with her version from Patsy's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart at the age of just nine years old. The family of Decker moved from Louisiana to Georgia in the summer of 1995. Decker had begun writing songs and made regular trips to Nashville in search of an agreement with a record label. An agent from the independent label Big Yellow Dog Records heard her at 17 and started selling her songs to various labels. Decker's songs were listened to from Mercury Records president David Massey and passed on to L.A. Reid of Island/Def Jam Group affiliated labels group L.A. Reid was able to bind Decker to a deal. Jessie James' first album entitled Jessie James and released in August 2009, was her self-titled debut. Jessie James enjoyed a modest level of success, and Wanted was able to reach the Top 40 on the Singles Charts. Decker has always considered herself as a singer from the country genre, but the album's marketing and production was designed to appeal to an audience more influenced by pop. Following two singles from the album stiffed Decker confronted label executives to have more control over her music, and the next track Boys in the Summer was more of a country-centric release. Decker's second album, announced in the form of Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records, was pulled following Mercury was disappointed by the performances of three of her singles on country radio charts.
